Theodore Lutz (Ted/Teddy), 74, of The Bronx, New York passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022.
Ted was born in the Bronx on July 3, 1947. Ted was preceded in death by his parents Theodore (Ted) and Clare Lutz. He is survived by his sister Carol Sims and her husband John as well as a large extended family including numerous cousins who he loved dearly and who he considered brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, and his Goddaughter, Lizzi. Finally, Teddy leaves countless friends, too numerous to mention, who he was devoted to and they him.
Teddy truly lived life to the fullest and was a Bronx boy through and through. He graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx. At the age of 20, he was one of the first counselors at The Lacombe Avenue Residence located in the Soundview section of the Bronx, a group home for boys aged 11-16 yrs. That was in 1967 and even today he is fondly remembered by some of the residents, now grown men themselves. They never forgot Ted and described him as the funniest person they ever knew–telling the best jokes and stories which made it easy for them to like and trust him. Recently, some of these same men were kind enough to visit Ted during his illness–amazing! Throughout his younger years, Ted had various jobs, but he made a career as a bartender. Ted tended bar in numerous establishments throughout the Bronx and Manhattan, but the years he worked at The Piper’s Kilt in the Bronx were his most cherished days as a bartender. More than just serving drinks, Ted always offered a friendly word, a funny story, or a helping hand to so many people that lasting friendships grew. As much as he loved his time as a bartender, he enjoyed his free time as well. He loved to travel and was an avid sports fan and gambler and the two were usually combined, often with success. Ted will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
