In Loving Memory of Pascual Monell
It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Pascual Monell, a devoted father, grandfather, and proud son of Puerto Rico. Pascual was born and raised in the vibrant coastal town of Caracas, Vieques — the last of seven children in a family whose strength and love shaped the man he would become.
A self-taught Renaissance man, Pascual embodied the spirit of creativity and resilience. With a quiet determination and deep curiosity, he taught himself to play the guitar, and Cuatro, not long after, he mastered the art of crafting them with his own hands. Each instrument he built was a symbol of his devotion to his heritage and his belief in the beauty of things made with care, purpose, and love.
Pascual married the love of his life, Marcela Esquerete, and together they raised two children — Wilfredo and Awilda — instilling in them the same values of humility, wisdom, and kindness that Pascual carried throughout his life. After Marcela’s passing in 2002, Pascual remained devoted to her memory, choosing never to remarry, his heart faithfully holding space for the life they built together.
Let us also remember his unmatched sense of humor. He had impecable comedic timing, his straight faced punchline delivery left you simultaneously in stitches and confused. His sarcastic wit would often leave you questioning "he's joking right?"
Pascual’s legacy lives on in the lives of his family. He is survived by his beloved son and daughter, 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Each carries forward a piece of his spirit — his gentleness, his intelligence, his unwavering resourcefulness, and, above all, his deep and abiding love for family.
To know Pascual was to witness a quiet strength and a soul rooted in compassion. He was humble in his ways, wise beyond words, and endlessly giving. He asked for little and gave everything to those he loved. His hands built music, his words offered comfort, and his presence brought peace. For Pascual, family was not just important — it was everything.
He will be remembered not only for what he did, but for how he made people feel — seen, heard, and cherished. Though he has departed this life, Pascual Monell’s legacy will echo for generations, carried in the songs he played, the instruments he crafted, and the hearts of all who were blessed to call him theirs.
May he rest in peace, surrounded by the same love he gave so freely.
