Muneshwar Singh Obituary

On January 3, 1956 in Stanleytown, Guyana the Singh family was blessed with two additional children - twins - Muneshwar and Meera. Sadly we lost Muneshwar ‘Mark’ Singh on June 28, 2023. Born to Bissoondai Ena and Dennis Hanuman Singh, Mark was one of twelve children. We attended the La Retraite Church of Scotland School (a primary school) then branched off to various secondary schools. Mark attended the Covent Garden Secondary School, where he completed his GCE and obtained passes in various subjects.  His pursuits were not attained in Guyana, so he migrated  to Canada where he was a 'jack of all trades’.  Still pursuing his dreams, he migrated to the United States. His father, Dennis introduced him to Laureta Ramsammy and the two were married in March 1981. They have two loving daughters, Amanda and Alyssa.

Later he found the job of his dreams with the Winston Churchill in Riverdale, NY. He worked with them for over 40 years, climbing the ladder of success and rising from an entry level position to the Superintendent, where he oversaw 400 apartments over the course of 33 years. He only retired last year. Mark also started his own business, M & A Interior Painting and Tiling which he grew over the past 25 years.

Mark was an outdoorsy person, he loved traveling, gardening, music, and was a sharp dresser. He excelled in cricket playing in high school, during his time in Canada and at home in New York, often in Van Cortlandt Park. One of his most precious possessions is his Corvette, which was symbolic of his early success after years of hardwork. However, above all he loved spending time and making memories with family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and they are his greatest joy.

Muneshwar is survived by his wife Laureta, his daughters, Amanda and Alyssa and their spouses Carlos and Alex, grandchildren Christian, Mia and Jax, his mother, Ena Singh, his siblings, Everette, Zandra, Ingrid, Lorraine, Polly, Jeff, Meera, Joanne, Susan and Alec, his in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews. We take comfort in knowing that he is joining his father, Dennis, his aunt Emy, brother Chuck, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Basdai and Hamilton Ramsammy along with many others who have gone before.

As many of you fondly refer to him as Dodo, know that the origin of his nickname is based on his love of the the Doctor Dolittle children’s book series written by Hugh Lofting starting in the 1920s. The theme of these stories was compassion, kindness and the ability to learn from and embrace others despite differences. These stories greatly influenced Dodo to become the man he is, taking so many under his wing and leaving an indelible impact on not only his immediate and extended family but many friends and in particular the generations that came after him. Dodo treated everyone he was close to as family.

Mark will be lovingly remembered by all as the 'little man with a long story,' the serious superintendent, the helpful, loving and generous son, husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend who was always there for you even if it was just to make you laugh.

Mark, your soul is resting in peace now. You have a perpetual place in our hearts will be lovingly remembered by all.
