Luisa Franqui , April 30, 1924 ~ December 2, 2020 (age 96) Born in the small fishing village of Puerto Real, in the town of Cabo Rojo on the U.S. Territory of Puerto Rico, Luisa was the eldest child of Eugenio Franqui and Maria Luisa Acosta. Her mother died when Luisa was only 12 and she helped her father to raise her four younger siblings: Pedro (Piro), Ignacio (Pocho), Estela, and Reinaldo. She used the sewing skills her mother had taught her to help support the family as a seamstress. At the age of 20, she married Milton Torres and they had 3 children; Mirta, Ida and Milton Jr. The Torres family moved to the Bronx, NY in 1953 & Luisa found a job in a factory. The family overcame the loss of Milton Jr. 2 years later in 1955 to leukemia. She & her husband also successfully owned and ran a local bodega until they chose to return to Puerto Rico in 1982. Her husband passed suddenly in 1986. But, Luisa was always a strong, independent and resilient soul. She remained in Puerto Rico, surrounded by extended family until she was 85. For the last 11 years of her life, she lived in the Bronx with her daughter Ida and enjoying her family. She is survived by her brother Reinaldo, her children Mirta & Ida, her grandchildren Marisol & Carlos and her great grandchildren Christian, Natalya, Austin and Aleksandra. Her love and care will always be missed. Forever in our Hearts.
