Juan Nieves Obituary

In Loving Memory of Juan Nieves
December 5, 1940 – February 12, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Juan Nieves, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. Juan passed away peacefully on February 12, 2025, at the age of 84. He was born on December 5, 1940, in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico, to the late Flor Nieves and Otillia Cosme. Sadly, Juan lost his mother at the tender age of one and was lovingly raised by his grandmother, Mama Quinta, whom he cherished deeply.
Juan spent his early years in Puerto Rico, where he attended school and worked in agriculture. Driven by a desire to provide a better life for his beloved grandmother, he moved to New York in his thirties. There, he secured a job with the NYC Parks Department and proudly retired at the age of 65.

In the early 1990s, Juan met Margarita Arroyo, the love of his life. They married on December 5, 1992, and together they formed a strong, loving family. Juan also embraced his role as a father to Margarita’s daughter, Erika Lopez, who loved him as if he were her own father.
Juan was a man of unwavering love, integrity, and faith. He was deeply respected and admired by all who knew him. As a devoted follower of God, he was an active member of his church and served as a member of the board of trustees. He was also a passionate teacher of the Word of God, sharing his faith and wisdom with those around him.
Known for his infectious laugh, boundless kindness, and the joy he spread to everyone he encountered, Juan was beloved within his family, his church family and community. He treasured spending time with his loved ones, always eager to offer support and encouragement.
Juan is survived by his devoted wife, Margarita Arroyo-Nieves; his daughter, Erika Lopez, whom he adored; his son, Edwin Nieves; his grandson, Joshua Valdez; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly. To God be the glory for all the years He allowed Juan to be with us. Rest in peace, papi. You will forever be in our hearts.
