Horacio “Hershey” Ledesma Jr. was born in Manhattan to his parents Horacio Ledesma Sr. and Juana Henriquez. Horacio was predeceased by his sister Magaly; and surviving brother Robert and his only son Adrian with his former wife Esther. On March 7, 2022 at 9:45pm Adrian received the devastating news his father passed away at age 66. Horacio attended Bishop Dubois High School in Manhattan and graduated in 1973. Shortly after graduation he attended the Albert Merrill School where he received his certification as a Data Processing Technician. He was a member of Laborers Local 79 Union for a little under 20 years. As a Shop Stewart he stood in solidarity with his fellow brothers and sisters to receive a fair representation, a safe work environment and benefits. Adrian follows in this legacy when he became a member of Laborers Local 79. Hershey's reverence and love for his son Adrian was apparent each time they both entered a room. Hershey responded to 9/11 as a union member and first volunteers at Ground Zero to assist with rescue and recovery efforts. His faith permeated his actions toward his fellow man, volunteering at God’s Love We Deliver every Thanksgiving Day to share his bounty with others. Hershey had a presence, with his booming voice and contagious laughter that filled the room with joy and levity. Hershey was a lover of music and liked playing the congas. He was an avid fisherman not only did he cast his line and loved the sea; he made an effort to draw you into his narrative of stories and observations that would ultimately leave you laughing. Hershey has left an indelible impression in the fabric of our lives and his memory will always live on in our hearts.
