Dorothy Mae Shepherd

Dorothy Mae Shepherd, 76, passed away on February 17, 2019 at The Plaza Nursing Home. 

Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at the Williams Funeral Home.

Viewing: 2-4 p.m.

Service: 6-8 p.m.

            Mrs. Shepherd was born on April 30, 1942 in Alabama to Lee and Lela Mae Stark.  She spent her days working as a teacher’s aide, though the job she will best be remembered by is being a wonderful wife and mother to five children: Diane Roberts, Will Shepherd, Jr., Theresa Scott, Valerie Shepherd and Alphonso Shepherd.  Her eldest daughter, Diane, predeceased her last year on January 22 after losing her own fight against cancer.  A humble woman, Dorothy rarely complained about anything.  She was a kind and gentle-hearted woman, who loved life and found joy in everyone.  No matter what she was going through, she would always say, “I’m good,” when asked about how she was feeling, so as not to burden anyone.  Dorothy is survived by her husband of 63 years, Will Shepherd, her daughters Theresa and Valerie, her sons Will and Alphonso and nine grandchildren: Christina, Aerial, Ashley, Cameron, Terrill, Dean, Dylan, Kayla and Skye.  She also leaves behind three sisters: Elvira Shannon, Claudia Curnell, and Lela Witherspoon and a brother, Eulis Stark.
