Dashun Lamont Mitchell

Dashun Lamont Mitchell, affectionately known as Peppy or Pep, was sent to his eternal home on October 20, 2024, at age 49. A longtime resident of the Bronx, he left a lasting impact on the lives of all who knew him.

Born in the Bronx on October 6, 1975, Dashun was the beloved son of Frances Mitchell and Arthur Swinson, fondly known as "Gene." Peppy was a shining light in the lives of many. Though his journey on this earth was cut short, it was marked by fearlessness, compassion for others, love for family, and an adventurous spirit. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the ways in which he made a positive impact in your life.

Dashun studied at Apex Technical School, focusing on auto repair—a fitting path given his passion for cars, motorcycles and anything mechanical. From a young age to his adult years, Pep loved to draw, spending countless hours capturing his thoughts on paper of superheroes and supervillains, sports cars and more; using art as a way to clear his mind and take him on many adventures. Dashun had a love for adventure and often led his siblings into thrilling, sometimes risky, escapades that he’d proudly describe as “cool and unforgettable.” He encouraged those around him to be fearless, to try new things, and would often remind them with a smile, "if you fail, you might die—but at least it was fun!"

Pep was a jokester with a great personality. His “lame” jokes were made funny by his infectious smile and laughter. Family was at the center of his world. He adored his mother, Frances, who he lost any an early age, believing she was with him in spirit till the day he moved on; along with other loved ones who had passed. This belief brought him comfort and strength. As a protector at heart, Dashun was always looking out for his siblings, standing up for them when needed, even if he sometimes led them into a bit of mischief. Through these shared experiences, he taught them resilience and bravery—lessons they carry forward.

Dashun is survived by his two children, Devon Mitchell and Diamond Chester, whom he loved deeply. Though they weren’t in his life as much as he wished, they brought him joy that radiated from his face whenever he spoke about them. He is also survived by his four brothers, William, Keith, Yakeem, and Rasheem, a sister; a beloved aunt, uncle, many beloved cousins, and friends who all adored him.

The Celebration of Life service to honor the life of Dashun Lamont Mitchell will be held on Friday, November 1st, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home, located at 5628 Broadway, Bronx, NY 10463. He will be deeply missed by friends and family. Although Pep's physical presence may no longer be with us, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us and give us joy. May his memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth his legacy of fearlessness, compassion for others, love for family, and an adventurous spirit.
