Her Light Lives On in All Who Loved Her

With profound love and heartfelt sorrow, the family of Cynthia Kamara announces her peaceful passing on April 11, 2026, at Dumont Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Care in New Rochelle, NY. She was 79 years old. Cynthia was born on November 1, 1946, in Freetown, Sierra Leone to her mother Mabel “Mama Lady” Roberts and her father, William Lokoubi Frazer. Cynthia was raised in the Bambara Springs community, where the strength, pride and lively spirit that would define her life first took root. She attended Annie Walsh Memorial School and carried throughout her life a quiet determination, resilience and grace. With courage and determination, Cynthia made the journey from Freetown to the United States in 1969, at a time when very few immigrants from Sierra Leone had settled in America. In many ways, she was among the early trailblazers of her generation, stepping into a new country with hope and the resolve to build a new future.
Within that growing community, Cynthia met the love of her life, Ibrahim B. Kamara, in 1972. Their connection quickly blossomed and they were married soon after. For 54 years, they shared a life grounded in loyalty, partnership and devotion. Through life’s joys and challenges, they remained steadfast companions, building a family and a bond that endured until her passing. Through dedication and perseverance, Cynthia helped create a stable and loving home for her family. She worked for 28 years as an assembler at Eagle Electric and, after retirement, continued working for another 12 years as a lobby attendant in the Public Safety Department of Riverbay Corporation. She took pride in her work and caring for those she loved. Of all her accomplishments, her greatest joy was raising her daughter and witnessing the woman she has become. A faithful and steady presence in her community, Cynthia was an active member of St. Joseph Episcopal Church, Co-Op City, Bronx, NY. To know Cynthia was to know warmth, laughter and strength. She was known for her beautiful smile, contagious laugh, courageous spirit and the resilience with which she faced life’s challenges. She had a feisty spark that made her unforgettable and a presence that could brighten any room she entered. She found happiness in life’s simple joys. In her younger years, she enjoyed going out and celebrating life with her beloved husband, Ibrahim. Later, some of her happiest moments were spent dining out, shopping and sharing time with her daughter. She loved music and always kept the radio playing in the kitchen. She especially enjoyed Cher and Pitbull, and whenever they appeared on television, she would dance with joy and celebration.

Above all else, Cynthia loved her family. Her daughter knew that no matter how grown she became, she would always be her mother’s baby. Cynthia’s love was protective, loyal and unwavering. One of the most cherished memories her family carries is the strength Cynthia and her daughter gave one another while caring for her husband during times of illness. In difficult moments, they stood together. In uncertain times, they leaned on love. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Mabel “Mama Lady” Roberts; her father, William Lokoubi Frazer and siblings Roswell Roberts, Monfort “Ade” Ladner, Proben “Femi” Lewis, Marina Frazer, Magnus Frazer, Hulda Connel, Wilhelmina Frazer and Junior Frazer. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 54 years, Ibrahim B. Kamara; her loving daughter, Ruby Kamara O’Reilly; her son-in-law, Mel O’Reilly; her siblings Donald Lewis, Yvette Frazer, Dovie Bowen-Wright, Michael Frazer, Williette Domingo, Bal Frazer and Hulda Frazer; as well as a wide and loving extended family whose bonds stretch across Sierra Leone, the United Kingdom, and the United States. She remained deeply connected to the many branches of her family and took great pride in those relationships throughout her life. She is lovingly remembered by members of the Kamara, Frazer, Richards, Connel, Hero, Juxon-Smith, Harding, Janneh, Riddle, O’Reilly and Lea families, along with dear friends and all whose lives were touched by her kindness. Cynthia Kamara was a loving woman whose light reached far beyond what words can measure. Though she is no longer physically present, the laughter she shared, the love she gave and the strength she modeled will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew her.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all family, friends and loved ones who have honored Cynthia’s memory and supported them during this time of loss. Your prayers, kindness, calls, visits and acts of compassion have brought comfort beyond measure and will never be forgotten.
