Catherine was born on September 26, 1945 in Manhattan, New York to Gloria Van Thylen and was her only child. A true New Yorker she was raised in NYC living in Manhattan until she moved to her ultimate residence in the Marble Hill area of the Bronx. After completing high school she went on to work for the the New York telephone company (The Bell company) for decades and throughout its various company name changes including NYNEX, Bell Atlantic and Verizon until her retirement.
Cathy as she liked to be called was predeceased by her mother Gloria and her Uncle Raymond. She is survived by her Aunt Grace and first cousin Maria to whom she was a beloved niece and cousin. Cathy was well loved and will be missed by her remaining cousins Abigail (Titi Eil), Emmett and Eric as well as extended family here in the U.S. and in her grandparents native country of Curacao.
Family was a priority to Cathy to whom she was always caring and willing to help selflessly. She was a kind and gentle soul to all she met and a lover of animals. She will be remembered as a positive and giving daughter, niece, cousin, friend, coworker, neighbor and pet sitter. Chewie her favorite cat will miss being spoiled by her.
Soft spoken, gentle, with a welcoming smile are the fond memories of her that will be cherished by family and friends.
Cathy’s family would like to express their deep gratitude for the love, support and special memories shared during this difficult time.
