Bertha N Smalls

Bertha Mae Smalls was 87 when she passed away on Tuesday, March 31,2020. She was born Bertha Mae Shedrick, in Beaufort, South Carolina on September 25, 1932. She was a devoted mother of 4 children, daughter, Gloria Minor, sons, Ethan Minor (Doris), Jack Smalls and Jonathan Smalls (Rita). She is preceded in death by her mother, Lillian Brown, and sister, Mildred Clark. She is survived by her daughter, sons, and brothers, Thomas Bolden, Willie DeVeaux, Nathaniel DeVeaux, Robert Brown, sister, Sandra Melancon, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Bertha was employed as a nurse’s aide in the Veterans Hospital in New York City, and as a private nurse. She found time to travel the east coast by bus and cruise ship. She was a long-time member of the New City Wednesday Dolls bowling league. As an avid seamstress, she found time to make clothing for family members and friends. She was a member of Living Word Christian Church in New York and participated in many outreach programs as she was able. Bertha will be sorely missed as she begins her journey with the Lord. A memorial service will be held at a date later to be determined.
