Apolinar Tejada Obituary

A Family Tribute

Greetings to the entire family, especially the Tejada Canela family, on the passing of our family patriarch, Apolinar Tejada.

Let us reflect on some details regarding the life of our beloved late cousin. He was born in La Ceiba de Bonao, the son of our uncle Geraldo Tejada, in the year 1947. From a very young age, he was interested in self-improvement, although he had to become involved in agricultural work.

In 1961, his uncle Alejo and aunt Juana Tona took him to Santiago, where he dedicated himself to both work and study. In 1966, he married Ramona Canela Jiménez in Bonao, his one and eternal wife.

Despite his young age, he became an outstanding employee at the Bermúdez company in Santiago. In 1970, he resigned in order to move to New York in search of a better future for his household and for the entire Tejada family, including many friends. Temporarily, he left his wife and first three children in the Dominican Republic.

His beginnings in New York were very difficult, often working up to 14 hours a day, while continuing to study, especially the English language.

Our dear cousin Apolinar became the motivator and facilitator for the advancement of the entire family, both in the Dominican Republic and in New York. His mission was to open doors of opportunity for family members and even friends.

Through his family sponsorships, efforts, and support, more than 100 people were able to enter the United States. Upon arriving, they found shelter, food, furniture, loans, guidance, and most importantly, the warmth of family.

Our cousin was an example of honesty, perseverance, hard work, guidance, and devotion as a family man. Today we are saddened by his passing, but proud of his life and accomplishments.

For these reasons, we should recognize him as the father and head of the family, both in the Dominican Republic and in the United States.

We pray that God keeps him by His side, and that his family may find peace, comfort, and pride in the legacy he leaves behind.

by Pablo Tejada.
