Antonio “Pepe” Cuesta, 95 years old passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. Born in San Cristóbal, Dominican Republic, he later made Washington Heights in New York City his home.
He is survived by his children, Grisel, Arelis, and Eddie Cuesta, as well as 14 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A pillar of the early Dominican community in Washington Heights, Mr. Cuesta migrated to New York in the early 1960s and became a guiding force for newcomers seeking opportunity and stability. In the 1970s, he purchased a parking garage on 174th Street, which grew into a trusted gathering place where Dominican immigrants connected, shared resources, and supported one another.
