Teresa Maxwell Obituary

Bronx, NY - Teresa (Nugent) Maxwell, a resident of the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx for 70 years, passed away peacefully at Calvary Hospital on October 2, 2019 at the age of 94.  Teresa Maxwell was born in Broomfield, Malahide, County Dublin, Ireland in 1925, the fourth child of James Nugent and Elizabeth Gorman Nugent.  She immigrated to the United States in 1949 and married her late husband John Maxwell on December 27, 1950 at St. John’s Church in Kingsbridge. Teresa and John were married for almost 41 years at the time of John’s passing in 1991. She became a naturalized citizen of the United States on April 10, 1967. Teresa was very religious and a loyal and dedicated parishioner of St. John’s for her entire life in the Bronx.  She contributed her time and efforts to many parish functions including being a member of the Religious of Jesus and Mary Society.  In 1970 she started to work as a cashier at Country Delite, a milk plant processing store, in Kingsbridge. She rose to the level of store manager and retired from the store only when it closed in 2014.  She was 88 years old at the time of her retirement.  She was, needless to say, a loyal and dedicated employee and the owners considered her part of their family. She was predeceased by her husband John Maxwell, two sisters: Angela Dunne and Maureen Nugent and four brothers: Patrick Nugent, Seamus Nugent, William “Desi” Nugent, and Sylvester Nugent.  She is survived by two brothers: John Nugent (Scotland) and Thomas Nugent (Ireland), five children: Eugene Maxwell (Fran), John Maxwell (Brenda), Mary Napolione (Joseph), Teresa Silverman (Alan), and Paul Maxwell (Tammy).  She is also survived by ten cherished grandchildren: Daniel Maxwell, Kerri Minet, Meghan Catanzarita, Caitlin Forcelli, Erin Vinciguerra, Danielle Long, Amanda Napolione, Kelsey Napolione, Bonnie DeCosta, and Sean Silverman and their respective spouses and seven great grandchildren: Jake and Emily Maxwell, Mackenzie and Andrew Letizia, Leo Long, Maxwell Catanzarita, and Rowan DeCosta.

The wake will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2019 from 2 PM – 4 PM and from 7 PM – 9 PM at Williams Funeral Home, 5628 Broadway (W. 232nd Street), Bronx, NY 10463 (www.wmsfuneralhome.com).  A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 AM on Friday, October 4, 2019 at Church of St. John - Visitation, 3021 Kingsbridge Avenue, Bronx, NY 10463.  Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY immediately after the Funeral Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for St. Patrick’s Home, Attn: Administration, 66 Van Cortlandt Park South, Bronx, NY 10463, or Calvary Hospital, www.calvaryhospital.org/ways-to-give.
