Julio A. (Toñito) Rodriguez, Sr., 95, of the Riverdale section of Bronx, NY, passed away on January 11, 2020 at the Schervier Rehabilitation and Nursing Center surrounded by his family. Julio was a loving father, husband, grandfather, uncle and friend to everyone.
Julio is survived by his wife Irma of 69 years, as well as his five children - Nellie Rodriguez-Windsor, Myrna Rodriguez, Julio A. Rodriguez, Jr., Antonio Rodriguez and Irma Iris Rodriguez-Arizmendi. As patriarch of his family, he leaves a legacy of six grandchildren, eight great-grand children, and bonus family including his grandchildren’s spouses, partners, step-great grand children, nieces, nephews, extended family and his sister Katie Rodriguez.
Julio was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico on March 16, 1924 and came to New York in 1948 to live with his mother and siblings in Spanish Harlem. He worked as a school aide for the New York Board of Education for 35+ years and was well loved and recognized by many neighborhood children and community for his work in the East Harlem public schools.
Julio had a deep profound love of family and was there to help relatives and friends by supporting in whatever ways people needed him. He loved and lived life to the fullest. Everyday was with laughing, walking, learning, reading, whistling, singing songs and rejoicing life. He was very thankful to the Lord for his blessed 95 years and voiced it often.
