Grania Hurley (nee O’Malley) passed away peacefully at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville NY on Friday July 13, 2018. A 60 year resident of the Bronx, Grania was born in Newport, County Mayo in Ireland on August 7, 1928. She was the twelfth of fourteen children born to George & Mary O’Malley. She emigrated to the United States in 1957 arriving in Cleveland Ohio. She married the late James Hurley of Donneraile County Cork in the Bronx NY on October 31, 1959. She is survived by her beloved son Michael & his wife Michaela, her brother Martin O’Malley & her sisters Bridget Truss, Theresa O’Malley & Una Majeska, numerous adoring nieces & nephews and her 4 beloved cats. She was pre-deceased by her parents, husband Jim, daughter in law Aileen, sisters Maureen, Margaret, Nora, Charlotte & Emma, her brothers Thomas, George, Jack & Michael & her niece Gail Carlson. Grania will be remembered by all who knew for her faith, kindness, generosity & fierce loyalty. She lived a long, proud & productive life, always putting others before herself. She worked for many years as a secretary/ bookkeeper for the Mason Tenders District Council & as a tax preparer for Naughton -Kardian Income Tax in the Bronx before retiring at age 85.
