In 1956, Charles and Josephine Williams established Williams Funeral Home, Inc. on the corner of Broadway and West 231st Street.  After just a few years business allowed them to move the funeral home to its present location.

Charles passed in 1976, and Josephine along with her son Andrew, continued to operate the funeral home.  Josephine was the first woman awarded Woman of the Year in the funeral industry by New York State in 1983.  She strove for perfection in her work and was a generous benefactor and philanthropist supporting many causes and institutions not only in the Kingsbridge / Riverdale area but throughout New York.  Since Josephine’s passing in 2004, Andrew has carried on these ideals and traditions and continues to support the Kingsbridge / Riverdale community.  He is currently serving as President of the Kingsbridge Business Improvement District and is involved with many facets of the community.
